FINALITÀ

The aim of the workshop is to give the students an open approach to people, by developing listening skills, self-awareness in the pastoral relationship and professional boundary keeping, as well as awareness of cultural differences, and how to recognize when we need to pass someone on for more specialized help than we can give. Also some input on stress management/relaxation, both in general and as related to the particular situation of this country.

ARGOMENTI

Introduction to major and relevant psychological theories (particularly Personality Theories): Freud, Jung, Maslow, Erikson, Berne, Rogers, Skinner/Beck, Ellis, Frankl. Listening Skills: barriers to listening, and to being perceived as listening; improvement of skills. Attitudes necessary for effective listening: practice using role-playing; some elements of improvement in communication. General outlines of human development: growing up, sexual and emotional development, social development. Professional Boundaries: What they entail, whose duty it is to keep them, possible effects of breaking them. Various kinds of abusive behaviour: what constitutes abuse and why. Ideas on celibacy and development of understanding of and practice of celibacy as one ages. Causes, effects and physic-psycho-emotional mechanisms of stress: some ways of dealing with stress, how to recognise and name emotions and modify them if necessary. Particular attention will be given to understanding and working with anger. The workshop is conducted in a collaborative and interactive way with as much input and participation (ideas and experiences) from the participants as possible.
